Yin is a slow steady stationary practice and a perfect complement to a Yang Vinyasa practice.

In Yin yoga, poses are held for one to five minutes. This is not an attempt to stretch but to load the ligaments appropriately, thereby initiating the body's natural response to stress and stimulate the circulation of chi (energy or vital essence). When we stress the ligaments appropriately in a non-aggressive way, we are coaxing chi and blood to flood into the joints making them stronger and better lubricated.

Overtime, with consistent practice, we can maintain elasticity in the joints throughout our lives. Yin Yoga directly affects the meridians (electromagnetic routes as in acupuncture) and corresponding organs enhancing how they function.

A Yin practice demands an attitude of attentiveness and kindness within us. This is a contemplative practice and has a calming and clarifying effect on the emotions and mind. We work with a steady breath rhythm which acts as a barometer for how skillfully we are practicing. and if we pay careful attention it allows us to refine our ability to detect pushing our body too far.

Props are used to help the body release and sustain the poses.

All levels are welcome.
